Linking Your Identifier to Your Wallet: There Is No Step, and That Is the Design

If you came here looking for the linking screen, there is not one. Your identifier and your addresses are derived from the same recovery phrase, at the moment the wallet is created, so there is nothing to connect afterwards.

How it actually works

One phrase produces a tree of keys. Two branches of that tree matter here.

An identity key, which becomes your identifier. It signs statements about who you are and, by design, never holds or moves value.

A value key, which controls the account balances. It signs transactions and knows nothing about credentials.

Both come from the same seed, so they arrive together and stay together. The panel in the interface labelled with your addresses is a list of what was derived, made copyable. It describes itself in its own code as purely a reading surface, and that is exactly what it is.

We checked whether a linking operation exists anywhere

Because the absence is the whole page, it was searched rather than assumed.

A search across the wallet application and its backend for any operation that links, associates or attaches an identifier returns nothing. A search for a route family that does exist returns nine files in the backend, so the search finds implementations when they are there.

There is no such operation, and no partially-built one.

Why the design is this way

Two reasons, and the second is the one that matters.

A link is a claim that has to be proven. If an identifier and a wallet start life apart, joining them means proving that whoever controls one also controls the other, which is a signature exchange somebody has to design, implement and get right.

Derivation makes that proof unnecessary. If both keys come from one seed, control of one is control of the other by construction. Nothing is asserted, so nothing can be forged.

And the cost, stated rather than skipped

You cannot rotate one without the other.

If you want a new identifier, you change the phrase, and the addresses change with it. If you want a new value account for privacy reasons, your identifier moves too. The two are welded together, and that is the direct price of not needing a linking proof.

A design where they were separate would allow independent rotation and would need the proof this one avoids. Neither choice is free, and a page presenting derivation as pure upside would be selling rather than explaining.

What you can actually do on that screen

Read your identifier and copy it. Read your per-chain addresses and copy them.
